FSMA-Produce Safety Rule (PSR)

Who Needs FSMA-Produce Safety Rule (PSR)?

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) — and, specifically, the Produce Safety Rule (PSR) component of it — establishes minimum standards required for “the safe growing, harvesting, packing, and holding of fruits and vegetables grown for human consumption.”

It is regulated and enforced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), with an audit performed to confirm compliance.

Covered farms are required to document compliance with rules that regulate operational areas such as:

Training of Personnel
Health and Hygiene
Agricultural Water
Growing, Harvesting, Packing, and Holding Activities
Biological Soil Amendments
Equipment, Tools, Buildings, and Sanitation
