PrimusGFS is an audit certification program recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
Large U.S. retailers like Walmart, Costco, and Wegmans, as well as food service companies like Sysco, pushed for standardized audit certifications that would be universally accepted worldwide. And now most retailers require this food safety certification, especially in the U.S.
PrimusGFS is such a certification.
PrimusGFS is benchmarked against GFSI standards and compliance requirements. It provides an integrated supply chain approach and covers pre- to post-farm gate production in scope.
So, if you’re a grower who’s part of the supply chain to U.S. food retailers, it’s highly likely that you need to be PrimusGFS certified. And this means passing an audit covering Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
